Cherry Frozen Yogurt W/ Mini Chocolate Chips
I knew I had a winner with this recipe when my husband dug into the freezer container and filled his empty coffee mug right up to the top with this frozen yogurt. Make no mistake. This is tangy and wonderful and so refreshing it will give you chills. No pun intended…
The honey in the background is light without being sickeningly sweet as so many frozen treats are. Whether you choose to go with fat free yogurt, regular, or something in between, you can truly inhale this dessert guilt free. Just be sure to get plain cherries, not sweetened or packed in syrup. Big chocolate chips are OK too, but we like the cold little bite of the minis. They are easy to eat when frozen. Also, you can roughly chop the whole cherries before stirring them in at the end, but I found it wasn’t necessary. Add a little shortbread cookie and you have got yourself one spectacular dessert! Take a cue from my husband and serve it right in your after dinner coffee mug.

Some yogurts contain gelatin as a stabilizer, so make sure the yogurt you use for this is gelatin free. Stoneyfield Farms is a great brand for this. I use the fat free, but the low-fat might freeze even better! Feel free to use fresh sweet cherries when they are in season-about 3 cups.
1-32 oz container vanilla yogurt, preferably organic
1-12 oz bag frozen cherries-do not defrost
1/3 c honey
1/2 c mini chocolate chips
In the bowl of a food processor, pulse the yogurt, honey, and half of the bag of cherries, just until combined. Freeze in an ice cream maker according to manufacturers directions. Stir in the rest of the bag of cherries and the chocolate chips. Pour into a freezer container and freeze until firm. Let set out a bit before serving to soften.
Note: We actually like this best right out of the ice cream maker with the consistency of soft serve.
I LOVE this! Yum!
